Patches Takes a Ski Run

Patches is practicing a brand-new ski skill: staying steady while zooming down the hill! His floppy ears are flying behind him, and his hat stays snug on his head. He has bent his knees just like a careful skier should. This brave little puppy may be learning, but he looks excited to reach the bottom. Cheer for Patches as you color his snowy ride and imagine the swoosh of his skis.

Dress Patches for the Slopes

Make Patches a spotted brown-and-white puppy, or invent a coat with purple spots and green ears. His hat could have bold stripes and a bright pom-pom. Color each ski a different color so they are easy to see against the snow. Pale blue or light gray works nicely for the hill, with darker blue curved lines to show his path. Add rosy pink cheeks to show that the winter air is cold.

Skiing Safety Facts for Kids

Skiing means sliding over snow on long, narrow skis attached to special boots. Skiers often wear helmets to help protect their heads. Beginners learn on gentle hills and can take lessons from trained teachers. It is important to watch where you are going, leave space around other skiers, and follow the signs on the slope. Warm layers, gloves, and goggles can make a ski day more comfortable, too.
