Eight Fish in the Water

Eight fish are swimming around the number 8, making a wiggly undersea counting scene. Their fins and tails look as though they are gliding through gentle waves. Children can follow the fish one by one and count until they reach eight. The two loops in the number 8 even look a little like bubbles rising in water. What kind of ocean or pond will these fish call home?

Create a Rainbow Reef

Try a different color for every fish: red, yellow, turquoise, purple, orange, green, pink, and blue. Add darker lines or dots to make scales stand out. The number 8 could be ocean blue, while the water behind it is a lighter blue. Draw green seaweed near the bottom and a few gray bubble circles above the fish. A sandy yellow floor would finish your underwater picture nicely.

Fish Facts to Explore

Fish use fins to help them steer, stop, and move through water. Most fish breathe with gills instead of lungs. Their scales are small, protective coverings on their bodies. Fish live in oceans, rivers, lakes, and ponds all around the world. Some fish swim in groups called schools, which can help them stay safer. Can you imagine all eight fish swimming together as one little school?
