Pip the chick is hatching just in time for the Easter celebration. He has popped his head out to say hello and see the springtime fun. Color Pip and his patterned shell to welcome him to the world!
Pip is making a very big entrance from a very small home! This little chick has cracked open the top of a patterned egg and popped up to look around. His tiny beak, round eyes, and soft-looking feathers make him seem curious about the spring day waiting outside. The broken shell pieces are perfect for colorful designs. Maybe Pip hears birds singing, sees flowers blooming, or spots a friendly bunny nearby.
Chicks are often yellow, so sunny yellow is a classic choice for Pipโs fluffy body. Color his beak orange and add a little orange to his feet if they show. Choose two or three colors for the eggshell pattern, such as pink, blue, and green, so each stripe or dot is easy to see. Light brown or pale blue behind Pip can make the cracked white shell stand out nicely.
A baby chicken is called a chick. Before hatching, a chick grows inside an egg and gets food from the yolk inside it. When it is ready, the chick uses a tiny point on its beak, called an egg tooth, to crack the shell. That little egg tooth falls off soon after hatching. Chicks do not hatch from the colorful Easter eggs in stores, but the holiday eggs are inspired by spring and new life.
